In these uncertain economic times many parents are struggling to pay unaffordable child support payments;. It is common that child support is based on income from years past, when a parent's income was far more than it is today. And with Florida unemployment hovering around 10%, the burden of paying unaffordable child support payments is taking its toll on people who easily met their child support obligations before the economy went sour..

No one wants the children to go without. But we also must recognize that the payment must be fairly based on current financial information. Both parents must contribute to the support of their children. Florida has specific child support guidelines codified in the Florida Statutes governing how much each parent is to pay. Unfortunately, and all too often, the child support obligation is based on outdated or erroneous information which unfairly penalizes the absent/ noncustodial parent.

The Florida Association of Legal Document Preparers, (FALDP), http://www.faldp.org , exists to assist Florida consumers and Florida legal document preparers. This most recent addition to the FALDP Self-help Legal Guide Series - "Modifying Florida Child Support - Second Edition" - is designed to help Florida parents prepare their own documents to file in their local circuit court. The legal guidebook includes up to date sample Florida Supreme Court approved forms; author's comments; general form instructions;
